Mobile Sync - PDA Procedures
When you select the Sync option on your PDA menu, the Synchronization screen is displayed.
The synchronise process can be split into three areas:
- Programs - these are the Micronet Mobile programs. As Micronet releases new versions of the PDA programs, you need to update your device.
To do this, refer to "Synchronising Program Files via FTP".
- Data - this is the data that the Micronet Mobile applications use. This data includes files such as the Inventory master file, Debtors master file, etc.
Synchronising data is a two step process:
- First you need to download the data files to your PDA - refer to "Downloading Data Files via FTP".
- Then you need to synchronise the data files on your PDA - refer to "Mobile Sync - Data".
- Work - this is the output from the PDA programs. It might be in the form of a completed picking slip or a new sales order. These can be broken down into two further areas:
- Warehouse applications - these are the Micronet Mobile applications that are used within your warehouse such as Picking, Goods Received and Stocktake. Because these PDAs have a constant connection with the server, no separate synchronise process is required; the data is simply downloaded at the start of the process and sent back to the server at the end of the process.
- Remote applications - these are the Micronet Mobile applications that are used outside your warehouse, such as SalesForce. Because these PDAs don't always have a constant connection with the server, users tend to 'save' their work and then synchronise them at the same time, thus processing several orders at once rather than each one individually - refer to "Mobile Sync - Sales Force".
